It is located on a small island in the midst of other islands known as the Five Finger Islands 65 miles south of Juneau, 40 miles north of Petersburg and about 20 miles from Kake, Alaska. The lighthouse has been an active navigational aid since 1902.

The Five Finger Lighthouse is owned and managed by the Juneau Lighthouse Association, a 501 (C) (3) non-profit dedicated to the restoration, preservation and future public accessibility to the lighthouse.
